 Sturling Trafalgar Chronograph - Strong on Style, Weak on SubstanceOct 27, 2007

The Stuhrling name has been around for a while. However, the products now being sold by Amazon are created by a Brooklyn based company that is working to reinvigorate the brand.
Stuhrling watches tend to be stylish and sharp. In my personal opinion, the Trafalgar model has an understated elegance that makes it a nice choice out of the different models. (Notice that the product description for this model is not correct) However, the inner workings of these watches are much less than what high-end watch buyers have come to expect.
The Good
For starters, the leather band is a very nice quality. The watch body is a durable matt black finish. The clasp is standard, but effective. As for the basic chronograph functions, they work fine. The indiglo on the hands and hour markers are charged by light and glow well at night.
The Bad
However the hallmark of a quality watch is the ability to tell time well with little variation. That is a sign of quality watch crystals and mechanisms. This is where the Stuhrling falls short. You can expect the time to deviate by seconds per day, which is way too much for a watch in this class. If you are a demanding buyer this might irk you. This watch is said to be water resistant, but based upon its performance I am not going to jump into the pool with it to find out.
Stuhrling markets these watches as collectibles, and they may very well be. That remains to be proven to my satisfaction. For those buying this as a collectable, you can find great deals on these here at Amazon. For those looking for a precision timepiece, you might want to stay with more reputable brands.
At these discount prices, the shortcomings might seem minor. However, it makes you wonder how they ever set their list prices to begin with. This is not a Breitling after all.
Regardless, if you are determined to get a Stuhrling of your own, the Trafalgar Chronograph is the model I would recommend. Enjoy!

Overall great watch. Very nice build quality and leather. The black finish on the case is excellent, doesn't scratch easily and seems very durable. The stylized leather band is nice, I wasn't a real fan of the raised middle section, but after having it on my wrist it's very comfortable. No real complaints. For the money, this is a great buy. The size/face of the watch is a little on the medium side, otherwise I'd give it a solid 5. This is the second Stuhrling watch I own, and I'm very pleased with the quality and value of these watches. Bravo.

The stopwatch is easy to use, and the watch tells time well. As for the style, it looks just as distinctive out of the photo, and I've even been complimented on it several times in the few weeks I've owned it.
