A reliable old friendJun 15, 2007
By Ginni Craig I have to replace an old friend, my alarm clock. After 25 years the alarm has faded a little . This is the new version of the same clock. It works when the electricity goes out and wakes you up with a soft repeating alarm that only gets louder if you won't wake up. The face is dark after the lights are out so it doesn't keep you awake. This is one GREAT and long lasting clock.

Portable, functional...LOUD!Sep 05, 2008
By Stellalune Like another reviewer, I had the previous incarnation of this clock and loved it. Unfortunately my husband accidentally killed it one morning. (Guess he didn't want to get up for work.) Apparently the old model is no longer available, so I ordered this one. It was the only battery operated, analog clock I could find that also has a snooze bar-activated light. That was my main criterion, since I like the room totally dark when I'm sleeping but also want to be able to check the time if necessary.
My only complaint about this clock is the loudness and shrillness of the alarm. It's a high-pitched electronic beep, with alternating tones that get progressively louder if you ignore it. (Not that I could ignore it if I wanted to.) I ended up putting a piece of tape over the speaker on the back of the unit, and now it's tolerable.
If you sleep through quieter alarms, then this could be the perfect clock for you. But if you're a light sleeper and sudden, loud noises make you jump out of your skin, try the tape method or try another clock.

It is NOT silentApr 17, 2010
By Norah E. Harris Specifically searched for a clock that is SILENT. This one ticks - despite the claim that it is silent. AND it cost me the $10 restocking fee to find that out. Seems a case of false advertising to me. If you are a sensitive sleeper and are looking for a non-ticking clock - do not buy this clock. It is a mild tick, but a tick nonetheless. Nothing else about this clock was redeeming enough to keep it.

I bought this clock for my bedroom, but I picked a silver one, I'm not a big fan of gold color. it's very quiet, looks good, and it's easy to see at night by pressing button on the top. For the price I highly recommend it.

After reading reviews here which were mostly positive, I ordered this clock to replace my 23 year old Remington (made in Germany) bedside alarm clock. From the picture this clock looked pretty solid and had features I wanted. No dial light throughout the night. Battery operated. Small.
I did read a review that mentioned the plastic back. I just never expected it to be 8/10ths of the material that makes up this clock.....This clock looks and feels like it is plastic with a thin layer of gold metal glued onto the plastic...Note that shipping weight is 2.5 ounces....what was I expecting???
Nothing about this clock feels solid. I imagine it won't hold up long. Certainly not as long as my old Remington which was dropped on the floor numerous times and never missed a second. ( Broke when my husband pulled the alarm pin to set the alarm and used a bit too much strength....Tried to have it repaired but was told it couldn't be fixed hence the replacement clock.)
Like others have said, I expected more from the name Seiko. I won't return it because of how much it costs to ship items back but I will be looking for a sturdier replacement and will let one of my children have this one.
Recommendations: Unless you have seen one of these and like it you are better off going to Target or Walmart and buying one of their clocks for a fraction of the cost. If you want a nicer clock - go to a department store and check out their stock.
