Nice, basic watchDec 23, 2010
By Ticktocker I am a watch collector and have been wanting the 1822 for quite some time now. I have 3 other Luminox watches and the 1822 seemed like a great, simple watch that I could wear all day without even thinking about it. I received it 5 days ago so take my review with that in mind.
The negatives: My first impression was that the watch is much larger than 42mm. It's more around the 47-49mm range. That disappointed me since I do not like large watches at all. Maybe it's the fact that there is no bezel at all and that makes it look bigger than it really is. The case and bracelet have rough edges (which to me denotes a lack of refinement and quality that my other Luminox watches have) that can dig into your wrist, depending on how sensitive you are to rough edges. The bracelet is not what I expected. It seems a little light and aluminum-like, instead of that heavy, stainless steel feel of other Luminox watches. When I unscrewed the crown and pulled it out to set the time, I noticed a loose feeling to the crown and when moving the date and day, I could feel that it does not have that tight, solid feel of other Luminox watches.
The positives: The luminescence is of course, top notch. That is why most would pick a Luminox in the first place and this watch carries on the Luminox tradition of excellent night visibility. The box and instructions seem well thought out. The simpleness of the dial is excellent. Readability is easy in daylight or darkness, being that it is such a large watch.
Keep in mind that it may be that I was unfortunate enough to get a watch that is "off" a bit when it comes to what you are likely to get but it was a surprise since every other Luminox experience has been flawless. Things like a bracelet with sharp edges that feels lighter and with less quality of other bracelets may not be important to you. Or a crown that feels loose. If they are not important, this is a great watch. It seems to be keeping time right to the second since the day I got it and set it to the atomic clock and the second hand lines up with the minute markers perfectly.
As far as value is concerned....... any watch that uses tritium gas tubes is going to have a big mark up in price. If the watch is a good seller, the mark up may be even bigger. This is a best seller for Luminox and they fly off the shelves so what I paid may be a good price considering what the watch has. I think a lower price tag would justify my overall experience with this watch. I paid just under $300 and I think if it would have been under $200, I would have received what I paid for.

Second try at Luminox, even worse than the firstOct 30, 2010

I bought this watch to replace a fabric band Navy Seal Luminox watch I had that literally fell apart in less than two years. I really liked how it glowed in the dark though, so I decided to give Luminox another shot. What a mistake, this one stopped working after two days, let alone two months. The store I bought it from gave me a new one, and guess what? Yup, it broke after two weeks. I returned it, got my money back, and bought a Seiko.

cheap watch!Oct 30, 2010
By Tobias Ralph Boisvert This is a VERY cheap watch. I was looking for an everyday sturdy watch that keeps good time and after tons of reading bought this one. The movement doesnt stay sinked. I reset it several times and and after a few minutes the minute hand starts falling behind the second hand. My last inexpensive watch was a Seiko and i just wanted something different. I wish i had stuck with Seiko. I will not buy another Luminox watch. As for the military buying these you should remember the military doesn't buy the best product. The military buys from the lowest bidder. This watch should be priced under a $100. Oh well i took a shot.....

No website I could find had pictures that shows just how pretty this watch really is. I just bought mine today and am totally impressed. This watch is so well built, it will probably last 20 years. The stainless steel bracelet is thick and chunky. Surgical grade stainless.
This watch really has it all. Sapphire crystal, screw down crown, day and date, safety clasp, anti-reflective coating and built like a tank. Can't think of any watch in this price range that is this nice with all these features. Love it. Highly recommended.
Beautiful functional watchFeb 24, 2012
By Jarrod Marshall I am very pleased with my new Luminox 1822 stainless steel watch. I am a firefighter and need to know the time in the dark at night when on shift. This watch is the only one that seems to meet this need. I did not want to go with indigo where you have to press a button to get a few seconds of illumination. I can tell what time it is and take pulses with the second hand even in poor lighting. During the day the black face contrasts nicely with the white hands. The numbers are large, easy to see and this watch even gives the 24 four time in smaller sized numbers. Comfortable to wear if you are use to a stainless steel watch. Looks great too. A winner!! The day and date is a nice feature with reasonably large letters and numbers.
My previous watch was a very nice Seiko but the time could not be seen in the dark unless it was exposed closely to bright light, and even then it would only illuminate and become visible in the complete darkness for a couple of hours.
Meets my needs and looks fantastic. I am now a Luminox fan.
