Accutron Astronaut Limited EditionMar 18, 2011
By James M Speicher A nice homage of the original 214 Tuning Fork driven Astronaut Watch. It now has an ETA 2893-2 automatic, mechanical 21-jewel GMT movement, with a large red-tipped 24-hour hand and fixed anodized 24-hour bezel. Other features are a sapphire crystal, a very solid, stainless steel bracelet with a locking deployment buckle closure, 100m water resistance, and a four-screw exhibition caseback, numbered to show each piece's position within the limited run. It is also etched with the signature endorsement of former astronaut and moon-walker Buzz Aldrin. This Astronaut version is larger than the original though the case is similarly shaped. It has a functional but very small crown on the side which the original didn't (the hands were set from the caseback). I rated it only 4 stars because of the fixed bezel, which limits its use as a multi-time zone watch, and the poor luminous paint used on the hands and minute markers. No excuse for poor "lume" with the very good Super Luminova type paints available these days. These two faults are minor though unless one needs a GMT with more than 2 time zones that is easily seen in the dark.

By tony If you are a collector, you want one of these watches. Great Swiss movement, used by many other manufacturers, in different variations. It is also extreamely accurate, chronometer like.
